Appearance

Digi is a white Earthling male from New England, age about 20 years old (give or take a year). His height is about 6'1" and he weighs approximately 185 pounds. One of his most notable physical characteristics is his shoulder-level blondish-brown hair, which is occasionally cut. More often that not, it stays around that length.

He almost always wears casual clothing: T-shirts, collared or not, with designs ranging from tropical-style floral print, solid colors, or even musical acts he listens to. Sometimes, when it is colder, he'll wear a longer-sleeved shirt instead. His pants are usually semi-baggy but the bagginess is not overdone. Also, he rarely strays from basic socks and sneakers.

Mentally, he is normally an outgoing and ambitious fellow whose number one ideal is for Questers to not channel their anger at other Questers, either in mission or at the HQ. He doesn't mind to speak his mind (though he usually likes to refrain from doing so around Julian), often carrying conversations about things such as Questers' homecomings, concerns for significant others, and, mostly with Scott, ideas for Side Quest's upcoming events.

History

The history of Ian "Digifanatic" Hoffman and his associations with the Questers is certainly an interesting one. At the age of nine, around 1996 CE, he and a friend of his were working on a school project when news spread of an Internet virus named Diaboromon, whose ruthless ways of destroying cyberspace struck the two children's minds. But, this was no normal virus the two picked up on, for Diaboromon was, in fact, a living monster of sorts created through a digital realm. Stranger, it was being fought by two other, more peacefully-aligned creatures, who were friends with a group of adolescents from Tokyo. For good luck, Digi and his friend sent an email to the group in Japan, and soon enough, Diaboromon was defeated. From the end of the battle on, the life of the young Quester-to-be would drastically change.

Later learning from a different classmate a bit more these so-called "digital monsters," commonly abbreviated to the single word "Digimon," Ian became well interested in their nature and existence. His fascination eventually led to his nickname that he is often referred to by fellow Questers and related beings.

A few years after the Diaboromon crisis, in 1999, Digi and his friend had their suspicions and even ambitions fulfilled, becoming forces in a worldwide group of people known as the "Digidestined," or "Chosen Children" (the two most well-known names--other literal translations varied throughout Earth), sent to aid crises in a place known as the Digital World. Without taking much time to think, they realized that their purpose for being "drafted" into this other-worldly force of warriors was their witnessing of Diaboromon's defeat, and that their destinies would help save both the Digital World and Earth alike.

However, the same night he received the call for the Digital World, Ian heard of a completely different group of fighters in the Questers. The rumor goes that it wasn't through a random warp but through a Nintendian in good cahuts with the Questers at the time, trying to go to different lands (and time periods) looking for potentially good Quester material. Spitting in the face of fate itself, he decided to join the Questers instead of fighting for the Digital World, but not without taking the Digivice he received from the Digital World (as a symbol of his multiple scenarios). This entry to SSQ began during the middle of Season 1.

He started out moderately fine, but tensions flared between him and other Questers. These problems were mostly due to his eccentric and annoying behavior, which, by some, was comparable to the infamous Sky High. Realizing that he wouldn't get very far with the others had he kept his annoying demeanor, he left about midway through the second season of SSQ's history. Even worse, upon his return to Earth, he learned that all of the Digital World crises had ended, leaving Ian at an inarguable low in his life to that point. (Because it wasn't necessary after his return to Earth, Digi has still never learned who his Digimon partner would have been had he not sided with the Questers.)

After Metal Man took over as the Questers' leader, Digi realized that he shouldn't have left the Questers on such a low note and decided to return, promising to not cause any more annoying scenes. His return was allowed and, early into Season 3, Digi's second (and much more longer) stint commenced, this time, without any rashes of irrationality or annoyance. This tenure with the Questers commenced about four years after his first began. Since then, he has enjoyed his much longer duration as a Quester, helping out over a wide range of missions. The span of his second stint has also granted him the privelege of having the second-longest streak of longevity among current active Questers, only trailing Metal himself (though stats such as experience points may not suggest it). Nowadays, Digi tends to recognize himself as the "guardian" type, often willing to take blows for other combatants, especially Julian and Dragoshi as they considerably outpower the rest of the other Questers.

He's also taken his musical interest to another level, getting into Scott's band, Side Quest, as a keyboard player, joining shortly after their Swordmaster gig. His equipment contains four synthesizers of various sizes (mainly for different "voices", especially when used simultaneously), a set of foot synth pedals, and a GSPB keytar acquired from a trip to Scott's planet with the rest of the band. He may have some interesting ideas for material waiting (covers and original works), but only time and consent will tell if they will come to fruition. After missions, he often retreats to a makeshift music room to practice a bit.

Here are a couple of more notable moments in Digi's history in SSQ:

-The "Handy Fight", Season 1: In one of his earliest highlights, Digi survived the onslaught of Master and Crazy Hand by himself for most of the fight. With critical hits and dramatic survival, he pulled one of the more notable upsets in an SSQ-related combat. Strangely enough, his partner in the fight was none other than Sky High.

-"Wrath of the Doorman", Season 3: This was Digi's first mission since he returned for his second tenure. His appearance was somewhat unorthodox (falling out of a bubble), but he came in hoping to patch up any bad relations with Questers he knew before. He got away with it just fine.

-"The Endless Battle" trilogy, Season 5: In his only Digimon-related encounter to date with the Questers, Ian took advantage of his background, picking up on artifacts and terminology others weren't knowing of. In the end, he sealed tyrant Mewthree, AKA MetalPsychimon, in a last-ditch manuever to save the fight for the Questers. It worked out perfectly, and he even gained a couple of attacks he still uses today, which became huge when it was time to "kill death" (part III of the trilogy).

-"The Platinum Challenge", Season 6: Once again, it was Digi vs. the Hands and this time, the Quester had to do it alone. However, there was no dramatic finish, as he easily wiped Master and Crazy out for the second time.

-"Denon's Downfall", Season 6: Digi's only successful blow against Denon was the most important of the match, a critical Celestial Fury (more info in Special Attacks) that finished Denon for good.

-"Metal Man Solidus", Season 10: Ian didn't need to work out any kinks involved his newly-acquired Team Attack. The first one he pulled off, assisted by Scott, involved a throw by Scott, a couple of ice-based manuevers of Digi's followed by a set of Heatseeker flames from Scott. The resulting antipode was more than enough to end the fight.

NOTE: The above just applies to stuff regarding Digi and his Questership. I have an extended set of material that has various events pertaining to his life aside from SSQ, which includes some of the important events that you may have read above. However, a lot of it contains other odd tidbits that one may find interesting and as a way to know more about the character. Please feel free to let me know if you're interested in this additional info.

Normal Attacks

NOTE: All damages and accuracies are base values (no bonuses such as damage bonus and weapon attributes are accounted for).

Fire Lunge: A good take-down move in which Digi smothers the target in flames, pushing them back a bit as well.
Damage: 20
Accuracy: d20+20
Bonuses: Knockback, Horizontal Movement X3, Charge Type 1 X3 (80 base damage/4 TP), Improved Critical (60 base damage).

Golf Club: The guy likes his sports, but he golfs the most. He incorporates the hobby into his offensive onslaught, swinging enemies around with one of his clubs.
Damage: 20
Accuracy: d20+20
Bonuses: Improved Reach, Improved Critical (60 base damage), Knockback X1, Charge Type 1 X2 (60 base damage/3 TP), 19-20 critical range.

Running Charge: He beelines for the opponent smothered in an electric current. If successful, its stun capabilities can send the target reeling for a bit.
Damage: 18
Accuracy: d20+19
Bonuses: Stun, Horiz. Movement X4, Knockdown (Enemy is knocked over, -3 to their AC for your next attack.)

Aerial Strike: A simple aerial move, be it a kick, punch, etc--anything would still deal the same damage in the end.
Damage: 18
Accuracy: d20+20
Bonuses: Horiz. Movement X2, Jump Movement X2, Knockback, Charge Type 1 X3 (72 base damage/4 TP), Range 1

Special Attacks

NOTE: All damages and accuracies are base values (no bonuses such as damage bonus and weapon attributes are accounted for).

Fire Punch: Almost a signature move of sorts, this is Digi's most powerful single-blow attack, striking the enemy with a red-hot flame.
Damage: 43
Accuracy: d20+19
Bonuses: Horiz. Movement X3, Charge Type 1 X3 (172 Fire base damage/8 TP)

Celestial Fury: A move acquired from Mewthree, Digi runs through the target with two blazes of maroonish-white light.
Hits: 2
Damage: 21 per hit
Accuracy: 2 d20+19
Bonuses: Horiz. Movement X1 (happens before attack hits), Charge Type 1 X2 (63 base damage per hit/6 TP).

Digital Barrier: A defensive manuever used to shield himself from possible attacks. It can take a beating, but consequences can be severe if Digi takes a bit too much damage.
Damage Blocked: Up to 72
Accuracy: d20+17 against the opposing attack
Bonuses: Barrier Type 1
Drawbacks: Dazed if burst, cannot move while the shield is up

Hyper Beam Matrix: Also acquired from Mewthree, this eminates two beams of faintly maroonish light at the target. It's weak but the charges can help make this be a potent move.
Hits: 2
Damage: 19 per hit
Accuracy: d20+19
Bonuses: Charge Type 2 X2 (57 base damage per hit/6 TP), Horizontal Range X2.

Icy Kick: Another basic elemental move, and it's also the one that covers the most ground at a time (in terms of his specials). A simple kick sends a burst of coldness at Ian's target.
Damage: 45
Accuracy: d20+20
Bonuses: Horiz. Movement X4, Knockback X1

Weapons

His only weapon is his Digivice, which is based on the 02 model (the oval-shaped kind), and is maroon-colored (which explains the maroon tinges for Celestial Fury and Hyper Beam Matrix).

Effects: -2 to damage, +4 accuracy when used with an attack

In addition to those affects, the Digivice is also used for teleportation purposes and other minor things.

Also interesting to note: as a Christmas gift, he had received a model that reflected a later "season" of the Digimon timeline. He originally kept it but never used it due to the integrity and symbolism of his original one, versus the newer one (the newer stats were modified and then carried over to the older model). It was given away towards the beginning of Season 11.

~~~
Voodoo Child Keytar: acquired from the GSPB Academy during Scott's trip
OOC Note: This whole side-story ended a bit prematurely and the band members (aside from Scott) never received stats from their GSPB instruments. I'm not sure if anything will develop out of these stat-wise--we'll see what happens.
Digi does not have any vehicles.
Super bonuses
Level 10: Digiport: Allows any combination of Questers, including or not including Digi, to move to a certain location, granted there is enough power between the Digivice's connection and his Smash Dex. Sometimes, other items may be used to generate more power when necessary.
Level 20: Stat Boost: After dealing a certain amount of damage, this increases Digi's STR, SPD, and MNT by 20% for 3 rounds. However, it's rarely activated due to the damage Digi would have to inflict.
Level 30: Item Slots: this is used to give Digi the chance to carry 10 copies of an single item, rather than the normal maximum of 7.
Levels 40 and 50: Elemental Will: 6 times per mission or stadium-based single battle, Digi can either add, replace, or remove an element to any of his attacks. It counts as two uses if he applies it to both halves of a two-hit attack.
Level 60, later Level 90: Old-Fashioned Lucky: gives two free rerolls per mission or stadium-based single battle.
Levels 70 and 80: Environmental Sync: joining the bandwagon, he's able to sync up with his surroundings, gaining possible benefits or drawbacks upon doing so.
Unique abilities
Level 50: Digital Seal: used as a last resort type move, this halves all of a boss' stats if Digi rolls a 100 on a d100. This can only be used on Digi's third life (or later if he is revived due to a Phoenix Down).
  • Full Cure X2
  • Air Tank X1
  • Ivantek Grenade X2
  • Energy Binoculars (used to find strange energy sources/forms in vicinity of where they're used)
    Also: he has a couple of abominations that he keeps in his room. (The Glitchy Paintbrush and the Inverse-Colored Bookend)
